Well, back on schedule now as we are now at the end of Day 5. We had our sheduled day off today and it was quite a contrast to yesterday, but good to carry on experiencing all the different places in Albania.
We were up nice and early again this morning and went for a short walk, but with good cause becasue we were treated to the Stephen Centre which is an American owned cafe enabling us to have a full range of breakfasts! I went for the full English, yum! :)
After that very promising start we headed off in the minibus towards
the local mountain called Dajti (Dye-tee). Our resident driver for the
week (Egroni) gave us our usual selection of beeps and jovial shouts as
we travelled through the absolute chaos that is traffic in Tirana, but
we made it through miracoulously unscathed as always.
We
arrived at a cable car station which was very nice and modern and
looked eminently safe enough to carry Matt, Jim and myself, which was
good enough for the rest of the team. The views were excellent and we
were blessed with an amazingly clear day which gave us a very clear
picture of the city of Tirana in amonst the mountains in a kind of
bowl. The smog hung over the city unable to escape, giving us another
reminder of the traffic problem which made us all appreciate the
mountain air a little more. To put it in context, 3 million people live
in Albania and 1 million of them live in Tirana, which when you see the
physical size of the place from the mountain, you can understand the
slight chaos in everyday Tirana. (Louise cycles through the chaos
everyday, so spare a thought)
At the top of the cable car we
walked on up for a while until we came to a nice cafe where we ate our
lunch taking in the surrounding views and then we headed back down to
play some football and frisbee outside the cable car station. All in
all a very nice break in our schedule. :)
After we came back we
headed up to Louise' flat for the devotions time and then Team 4 cooked
a delicious dinner, followed by an equally delicious home apple crumble
served by Louise. So bascially we have been spoiled today! But this is
all in aid of our long day tommorrow where we'll be spending the day at
Louise' school (GDQ) to help with assemblies, lessons etc and also
doing Kidz KLub on tour!
I think Sian will be blogging back on Day 6 if we get a chance. Only 3 days left!
P.S.
I'm feeling much better now. Lewis' ear was fine yeasterday and then
coming down in the cable car he told me it hurt again so please
continue to pray that it pops again and he's ok. Jim had a cold this
morning but felt a little better in the afternoon but may still not be
feeling great tomorrow which is a tough day, so please pray that all
the illnesses here would not develop coz we all need to be well!
Photo's of today will come at a later date, gotta go now.
