Start following Jesus
Jesus invites us to follow him, that's an invitation he offers to us all. A Christian is simply someone who follows Jesus. The goal of someone who follows Jesus is to try to live like him, to live as he would if he were in our shoes. As with anything, we start small and learn as we grow. Becoming a Christian isn't rocket science, it's just making that decision for yourself to follow Jesus. Here are some questions you could ask yourself:
Do I believe that Jesus is the son of God?
Do I believe that Jesus died and came back to life?
Do I acknowledge that I am not perfect and need God's help to be the person I was created to be?
Am I willing to follow Jesus, to look to him and learn from him, seeking to be like him?
Becoming a Christian is not like joining a club; there are no forms to fill in or procedures to follow. It's about starting a relationship. It's about acknowledging who Jesus is and who we are, recognising our need for a saviour. Here is a simple prayer you could pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross to rescue me from sin and death and to restore me to the Father. I choose now to turn from my sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please you. I choose you. I give myself to you. I receive your forgiveness and ask you to take your rightful place in my life as my Saviour and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me to become a person who is truly loving—a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Love through me. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
It is that simple, but Jesus didn't invite you to be a Christian; he invited you to follow him. This is something we choose to do each day, seeking to follow Jesus through what we think, say and do. Becoming a Christian is simple and easy; following Jesus is more challenging. That's what the church is all about; that's why FBC exists: to help people find and follow Jesus.
