What is this role all about?
The Visiting Team exists to support individuals, particularly those who are unwell, by helping them feel seen, heard, and valued. Through intentional presence, compassionate listening, and practical support, team members offer care that reflects kindness, dignity, and respect.
Why is this role important?
Caring for our church family is important. As a volunteer, having an active faith, helps us grow in our relationship with God. For someone who needs a visit it is encouraging and it is also a demonstration of God’s care for his people to those who witness it.

  • Availability during weekday daytime hours.
  • Confident and sensitive in offering prayer.
What is the expectation for this role?
This role requires a commitment to uphold confidentiality, demonstrate compassion, and work within agreed guidelines and policies to ensure the wellbeing of both visitors and those being visited.
  • Arrange visits in advance with the individual via the pastoral care lead
  • Always visit in pairs.
  • Inform the wider team and pastoral care lead of all planned visits.
  • Maintain clear communication with the pastoral care lead regarding availability and any concerns.
  • Prioritise listening and creating space for the individual to share.
  • Show empathy, compassion, and respect at all times.
  • Be attentive to social cues and the needs of the person being visited.
  • Offer to pray where appropriate and with sensitivity.
  • Offer to take communion with the person you are visiting, if they want to. This will need to be arranged for the next visit so you can prepare. (There is a guidelines document to support with this) 
  • Offer practical support by connecting the individual with relevant FBC teams if needed.
  • Record brief, confidential notes following each visit in line with data protection and safeguarding practices.
  • Share any relevant updates or concerns with the pastoral care lead appropriately.
  • Complete the FBC Safeguarding training.
  • Attend the Listening skills and prayer ministry training session
  • Attend the Understanding and maintaining healthy boundaries training session
  • Be available for ongoing supervision and support from the pastoral care lead
